Beckett's Journey 20-24 Weeks (5 Months)
This month is focused on FOCUS WHEN TRAINING AWAY FROM HOME and MANNERS (how to greet people without jumping; trail manners - dogs, children, people; outside dining; visiting homes); focus and attention on me when away from home. Much of this month may be in pictures and less videos. Of course I cannot photograph his interaction with children and other people but we are doing a lot of meet and greet children and adults. This picture above was Beckett's first trail walk, on leash - no pulling - just exploring and getting accustomed to dogs, people and children walking down the trail.
Our socialization is changing to include on leash walks in places where Beckett will meet children of all sizes, adults and dogs. The pictures above are from Aspen Corner in Flagstaff we went to last week. Today we visited a special place in Sedona, Crescent Moon Ranch along Oak Creek with these amazing cairns, that are called Buddha's, here. Beckett again met many people and children and is learning to sit and not jump when he greets them. He is learning that everyone is not to be greeted and that dogs are to be passed by unless he is told he can meet them. Everyone seems to want to meet him; one gal rolled on her back on the rocks and he enjoyed the game.
VIDEOS
Video 1: I have done most of Beckett's training inside in different rooms to minimize the distraction. It is now time to take the play/train/work out into more distracting areas as well as to progress our work such as the dumbbell retrieve and staring a recall to FRONT.
Video 2: The dogs love the FitPaws Fitbone. There are so many things you can do with it. Balancing in this direction where the surface is narrow is harder. I am also trying to teach Beckett, who is now 5 months old, how to keep his hind feet on the disc and stretch. Great for stretching, balance, and rear end awareness
Video 3: Challenging New FitPaws Work on Peanut and FitBone. This work is excellent to help the dog learn to use his rear legs and back up. Also excellent for stretching.
