Beckett has many sports he trains and shows in. I believe that diversity or balance in what our dogs do leads to a happy, confident and motivated dog. Beckett shows his joy and happiness in what he is doing by his enthusiastic wagging of his tail. When he started herding he would lay waiting to be released with his tail wagging and wagging. He continued to show his happy tail while he was working and especially when he finished showing how proud he was of himself.

For me, there is nothing more rewarding than to watch a happy, confident dog working as a team with his handler. Sadly, there are too many dogs that have had so much negative reinforcement in training that their performance clearly shows they are only doing it because they are being forced to.
